Lunchbox – What to Pack for a Pre-K Student

My youngest child started Pre-K this year and that makes me feel old – all my kiddos are in school now! But with this new and very exciting adventure comes an adventure for me as well: Packing Lunchboxes.

I’ve been lucky with my oldest child; he’s always had meals made for him at his school so I’ve never had to pack a lunch before. On top of packing lunch, I have to supply breakfast before school as well as provide a morning and afternoon snack.

After a lot of time on Pinterest and the realization that none of that matters; below are the lunches I’ve made for my childs’ first week of Pre-K!


Day One: Thursday

  • Hard Boiled Eggs (he didn’t touch the eggs)
  • Strawberries
  • Blueberries
  • Cherry Tomatoes
  • Seedless Red Grapes
  • Pretzels
  • Go-Gurt Yogurt
  • Water
  • Gatorade

Day Two: Friday

  • Beef Jerky – Honey BBQ Flavored
  • Cinnamon Applesauce
  • Cherry Tomatoes
  • Red Seedless Grapes
  • Blueberries
  • Apples Slices (he didn’t touch these)
  • Go-Gurt Yogurt
  • Goldfish
  • Pretzels
  • Gatorade
  • Water (not pictured)

Day Three: Monday

  • Sliced Ham – Rolled for easy pickup (which didn’t matter, because he didn’t eat any of it)
  • String Cheese
  • Blueberries
  • Red Seedless Grapes
  • Cherry Tomatoes
  • Go-Gurt Yogurt
  • Pretzels
  • Orange Jello
  • Gatorade
  • Water (not pictured)

Day Four: Tuesday

  • String Cheese
  • Red Seedless Grapes (clearly by now he’s over the grapes as they were untouched)
  • Go-Gurt Yogurt
  • Chocolate Chip Chewy Bar (he ate this on the way home)
  • Rice Krispy Treat
  • Orange Jello
  • Mandarin Oranges (these were untouched as well)
  • Gatorade (not pictured)
  • Water (not pictured)

Day Five: Wednesday

Today’s lunch was made by Daddy!
  • Cheese Pizza – Sliced for easy pickup
  • Apples
  • Red Seedless Grapes
  • Cucumbers
  • Rice Krispy Treats
  • Danimals Smoothie Yogurt
  • Mini-Muffins – Banana (not pictured)
  • Water (not pictured)
  • Gatorade (not pictured)

Day Six: Thursday

  • Mini Pancakes
  • Cucumbers
  • Rice Krispy Treat
  • Go-Gurt Yogurt
  • Chocolate Chip Chew Bar
  • Mini-Muffins (Banana)
  • Grape juice

Day Seven: Friday

  • Ham sandwich on Hawaiian Rolls
  • Mozzarella Cheese Sticks
  • Mandarin Oranges
  • Rice Krispies Treats
  • Go-Gurt Yogurt
  • Strawberry Jello
  • Grape Juice

Whew! After a week of lunches you can tell the options are quickly dwindling – I need to go food shopping for next weeks’ lunches and get some more ideas! It’s hard with my little one because he’s super picky and what he likes today, he may not like tomorrow. I’m working out the kinks and hopefully we’ll figure this out and get into the swing of things for the school year!
